Taking agricultural training courses in France

In France there are 2 main ways to obtain professional agricultural skill qualificationsthrough training:

initial agricultural training

in-service professional training for adults

Initial agricultural training

This can be taken either at school or as an apprenticeship. Schooling in France is organised in cycles:

Orientation cycle (3rd and 4th year in middle school)

Decision cycle (general and technological route – 5th year / professional route - CAPA and BEPA)

End cycle (general route – Bas S / technological route – Brevet de Technicien Agricole BTA, bac techno and STAE Sciences and Technologies of agriculture and the Environment) / professional route – professional baccalaureate).

Apprenticeship for those under 26 years

Apprenticeship is for young people from aged 16 to under 26, wishing to acquire professional qualifications with a diploma recognised at national level.

In-service professional training for adults

This type of training is for people over 18 years with at least one year’s professional experience.

In-service professional training can enable you to supplement the knowledge you have gained in training or through professional experience, thereby reaching the level required to obtain professional skills qualifications.

You must be able to prove an initial level of training or a minimum period of professional experience in your own country.

In general, candidates are recruited after an interview and tests. Your previous knowledge will be identified and possibly validated. This may take the form of short or long training courses in specialised Training Centres.
